Family Portrait

 Creative Expression is one of their favourite activities as the children get to explore with a variety of materials.  They also have opportunities to work with a few skills such as cutting with scissors, pasting, drawing etc. With this month's theme on Family, the children created their own family portrait using the materials given. They can be seen to be really enjoying the whole process.  Let's take a look at how focus they are and on their creativity!

Pasting using white glue was a breeze for the children.

Leaf Printing!

Having artwork outdoor is always fun!  With 'Nature' as our theme for the month, the children get to explore with leaf printing. They chose their favourite colour and painted their own leaf and printed on their paper.

Sofia wanted to print the leaf on her own.

Zhi Yuan's favourite colour is green.

Quinny's favourite colour is pink.

Cloey enjoys painting the leaf.

Dorothy needs some encouragement to paint the leaf.

Victoria was a little scared at first to explore but after some encouragement, she seems to be enjoying it.

Denzel enjoyed the leaf printing too!

The children were calm when the artwork was done outdoor. They must have really enjoyed the different ambience for this creative expression activity.

Having fun with face painting!

We are learning about the theme 'Myself' and we took this opportunity to do face-painting on the child's face. The children had a fun time exploring the face painting and discussing with one another on how he/she will like to do it! It was great to see all the smiles and hearing all the laughters. We had a splendid time indeed!

Childhood is not a time for limitations. Childhood is a time for choices. As adults we need to remember to respect and allow children to make decisions. Face painting allows children to express their emotions and they experience lots of fun when they get themselves messy. Parents, you may try this at home too as this will promote family bonding. Have fun!

Kids at work!

The children are focussed and actively involved in making the sea creature wall mural. The children moved around freely and selected the materials they would like to work with. It was amazing to see the children working independently and enjoying themselves. For those who are wondering what's a wall mural? A mural is any piece of artwork painted or applied directly on a wall, ceiling or other large permanent surface.

Jing Xuan is making her very own jellyfish by looking at the model jellyfish.

Chrishuan is looking excited as he formed the turtle's head. He just could not believe his eyes.

Ern Yu and Chrishaun are presenting their art work before the class. Look at their happy face as they took a picture with the turtle that they have created all by themselves with minimal help from the teacher. That's a great achievement!

Yee Ann is trying to fix the tentacles in the middle of the container just like the model jellyfish. She is using her critical thinking skills in trying to attach the tentacles. That is very challenging and happy to see her trying until the end. Indeed, the outcome was similar to the model jellyfish.

The children still visited during their free play and free time to work with the mural. Indeed, they were very much engaged and building bonds with one another. The children also worked as a team and collaborated with one another. It's heart warming to look at them as they take turns to work with the materials.

One of the advantages of a wall mural is that it makes him or her experience their own artistic sense. Art is one of the best things that a child could learn and if he or she develops a liking to it, it can also become a good past time to indulge in.  A parent should give a child the opportunity to own his or her room so as to awaken his or her creativity by encouraging to make a wall mural.

An inspiring wall mural would give your kid a positive disposition every day. If he or she sees positive images in the room every time he or she wakes up or goes to bed, it would make him or her feel happy and special. It would also make them feel that they are loved by their parents because they are given the freedom of choice. A happy child will grow up to have a more positive outlook in life as well as a friendly attitude. Thus, parents, you could try making a wall mural today with your child. Enjoy and have a fun time!

Wow! What a delicious art and craft!

 

This activity help young children develop their senses through exploration and discovery. Fine motor skills are further enhanced too. Fine motor refers to the movements we make with the small muscles of the hands. 

They also learn that their hands can assist in many other areas as their cognitive and social/emotional skills improve. The creative arts help to develop children’s senses. It is advisable to give them access to a wide range of materials to encourage their sense of touch just like having to do their art and craft using food ingredients. It's so beautiful to see children forming their wild animals through carving the fruits and slicing the chosen ingredients.

Both Yee Ann and Kai Le are working on their chosen animal, giraffe.

Let's fly parachutes!!!

The children are counting the number of styrofoams on the satay sticks.

Look at how focused they are trying to poke the styrofoams into the satay stick! It definitely enhances their eye-hand coordination and to stay focus.

Next, they learnt to thread the yarn through the hole on the plastic.
